We were absolutely delighted to team up with Manchester’s RED Production Company (a STUDIOCANAL company), on Ridley Road, the four-part BBC One drama series adapted for television by award-winning writer Sarah Solemani (Barry, Aphrodite Fry), from the critically acclaimed novel by Jo Bloom.
Ridley Road, a thriller set against the backdrop of a swinging sixties London, focuses on an East End world where far right fascism is on the rise. Inspired by the struggle of the 62 Group, a coalition of Jewish men who stood up against rising neo-Nazism in post-war Britain, Ridley Road sees a young Jewish woman, Vivien Epstein, leaving her comfortable life in Manchester and starting to work with them.

This film leveraged the wizardry of Spin’s award-winning creative team on nearly every scene, from a fully CG train sequence to a shape-shifting beach earthquake, utilizing the full scope of Spin’s effects and rendering capabilities.
Harnessing its deep talent pool, Spin was able to allocate resources across the various environments, with each room having its own VFX Supervisor and team. This allowed Spin to deliver hyper-realistic visuals across multiple sequences while working under tight deadlines. Spin’s flexible yet proactive approach saves valuable production time and resources by integrating smart solutions at the right time during especially complicated shooting schedules.
RISE VFX supervisor Benjamin Burr and his team are no strangers to the Steven King Universe. In 2019 he and his team helped recreate the environments from The Shining for Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep. Last year Mike directed a Netflix mini-series called Midnight Mass in which the inhabitants of an island feel rejuvenated after going to church – but RISE helped them feel the burn when exposed to daylight.
